“Well, it could have been caused by a number of things.  If unnaturally large amounts of organic material get into the river, causing an increase in oxygen-consuming bacteria, there will be a sharp drop in the dissolved oxygen content of the water, causing the death of many types of animals and plants.  Organic matter getting into a river could be sewage; or industrial waste from food processing plants; or excrement from farm animals.”

“Another possibility is that nitrates from artificial fertilisers, or phosphates from artificial detergents, have leached into the river resulting in increased nutrient levels, stimulating the growth of algae (which die and add to the organic matter), and other aquatic plants, creating a blanket of weed on the river surface and inhibiting the growth of oxygen-generating plants underneath.”

  1. I know this is a fantasy . . . because there is no such thing as too much hot chocolate and peanut butter anything. 😉

    Very nice colours.

Even though it’s fiction it terrified me. I suppose because it’s really not fiction after all, is it?

  2. Enjoyed thoroughly. I like that you are open to the limitless possibilities of this Universe, and incorporate that into the story…such as our galactic-and-beyond friends who look different than humans, telepathic communication, dream symbology, etc. Thank you.
